I just thought you folks might find this interesting. I'm writing a piece for Trapshooting USA Mag on the Eastern Zone Championships and in the process I've confirmed some information I heard on the line during the Singles Championship shoot off between David Shaeffer Jr (MD) and eventual champion, Dave Bicknell (CT).

David Shaeffer has run his first 200 singles program targets at the Grand. That makes him 1600 straight (not including shoot offs--program only). This run has bumped his average for the year to 99.76% on 4100 targets.

There are two points of interest here. First, his current average ranks number 5 on the all time list--fifth highest single season average ever (To contrast, Leo's highest was 99.70 and Stafford 99.72). Second, if Earl Scripture's long singles run record of 2167 counts program targets only (and I suspect it does) then David is well within striking distance of that record as well.

While Al Ferreira's single season singles average record of 99.83% is certainly safe... I thought that Dave Shaeffer's current run at history should not go un noticed.

    All the best,

    Walker

He has one heck of a record going so far.... wishing him all the best at the grand but secretly hoping my pops ('Doc' Ollock) can win the singles out there this year. In fact take a good look at those highly tuned athletes in the above picture.... Johnny Warner.. David, Doc and Robert.... wishing everyone at the Grand the best!

Oh... I'm sorry... as Tug has pointed out, Dave Shaeffer is on 2... And Tug's Dad, Stephen "Doc" Ollock is on 3.

    My apologies...

Nice post Walker. He is legally changing his name to DIAMOND DAVE (lol). Dave's comment was that the ladies like calling him DIAMOND. My prediction still stands DIAMOND DAVE will win the GRAND HANDICAP CAHPION. Michael Sharkey, DC

Congrats Dave...I'm lucky and proud to say that I know first hand how great of a shot Dave is..better yet I am lucky to count him among my very good and oldest friends and I hope my health improves enough to let me take the line with him again some day

David ran the front side of the Singles Class Championship this morning. That makes him 1700+ straight with an average of 99.761% on 4200 targets.

Dave ran the 200 today... that makes him 1800+ straight... that moves his average to 99.77% on 4300 targets.

Beyond impressive... I can't even imagine what its like to drop only 10 birds out of 4300 (and four of them were in the same event)... really its quite ridiculous.

Thought some of you might appreciate the update.

    The storyline here is amazing...

    All the best,

    Walker

Truly awesome...I don't know David, but that is quite an amazing bit of shooting. Good luck to him the rest of the way out at the Grand. I'll be looking for his name on the leaderboard.

Is that a recoil device around his middle? or just a counterweight....

I'm trying to lose weight, may have to try something different...

    great shooting
