A good friend inherited a Model 12 (12 gauge) which he'd like to hunt with, maybe waterfowl. The problem is that the Model 12 has a Cutts Compensator permanently attached to the barrel. Will this configuration be OK for duck loads, that is, steel shot? Now that I think of it, could this shotgun also be used with deer loads? Thanks.

I would not advise it for the noise reasons. However, the choke on a Cutts is much larger than bore diameter, and quality steel shot has a very thick wad to cushion the bore.

Use your own discretion. (If the cutts sails off into the marsh, get a metal detector)
