Custom electronic hearing protection devices are about as costly as hearing aids. Does anyone wear the shooting ones on a daily basis INSTEAD OF hearing aids?

Seems like a good idea, but there may be problems I'm not aware of.

    Comments?

Good question! An audiologist told me that hearing aids are vented and do not block incoming sound, but rather amplify and/or enhance it. Most hearing protection devices do not have a vented option and cannot compete with the quality of sound from a dedicated hearing aid. I think that the EAR, inc. units do have a vented option. Also, I have not been able to confirm that any of the hearing protection units can be lab-tuned to a hearing test printout when you order them. I have been unable to find an audiologist who is at all knowledgeable about the various hearing protection units.
