indyshotgun recently complained that Florida gun clubs charged too much. One of his complaints was against Jacksonville Gun Club. This morning I attended their annual meeting where the Treasurer gave a very complete presentation on this subject. He looked at the overall number of targets thrown in the last year and factoried in labor, trap maintenance, etc. and stated that their true cost of a round of targets is $5.83 per round. The current price round is $5.50 for member so it appears the club is losing $.33 per round! He suggested that the new board visit the price of targets and consider an adjustment.

Indyshotgun..... This club is member owned and does everything it can to reduce costs so your argument that the are charging too much is all wet.

Here in Celoron NY the price just went up from $3.50 to $4 and thats practice with no score keeper. Said price of targets is up and we get them direct from Lawry by the truck load.

I shoot at about 4 different clubs here in NW PA, and they are all $3 a round. It is casual practice, and we do our own scoring and trap filling. None of the clubs are going broke. If help had to be paid, that's a different story.

It appears that most of you are getting targets from the same place. The difference is that here in Florida we have to pay an extra 1000 miles on a truck.

Oh Lord, here we go again with that mindless "extra shipping distance to Florida" crap. Many places in Florida charge an additional $5-6 per round over and above what clubs in the Midwest or many other parts of the country charge. You'd have to be a complete blithering moron to think that's all freight.

I object to the baseless charge that clubs in Florida are ripping off the
He shooter. I have been a member of the board multiple clubs and your charge that we add cost willy nilly to hose the shooters is without merit.

    BTW welcome back Indy

I never said it was willy nilly. It's simple profit and/or waste. Some clubs in Florida are government run, and they operate without accountability just like any other government run entity. Regarding the private clubs charging $8-10 per round, it's profit unless those running it are idiots. This is America -- profit is legal. Just have some character about it and don't pretend you're barely scraping by.

We pay 31¢ per case shipping on 18 skids and we are 125 miles one way from a WF plant. That figures out to $1.40 per mile. Lets figure 1200 miles each way to FL x 2 = 2400 x $1.40 = $3360.00 for shipping or $2.42 per case shipping based on 22 skids in a trailer. We have a short trailer but I am figuring this on a 53' unit. Our last quote on targets (last week) was $8.15 per plus $2.42 = $10.57 PLUS 57¢ sales tax = $11.14 per case = 8.25¢ per target or $2.06 per 25 round. We are getting a good deal on shipping at $1.40 per mile. We did have another quote but it was only $1.50 per mile. The price will be lowered some by getting 24 skids in the trailer, shipping is the same on 10 as it is on 24. I don't know how much weight can be hauled but 48000 pounds in the trailer is a bunch. There you have the math, anything above $2.06 is overhead and profit.

I used to think that $5.50 - $6.00 a round was a rip off. Finally sat down and did the math on what it would take to start a trap club. Property (relatively near a population center) Lease/Purchase,Insurance,Infrastructure, Building, Utilities, Maintenance and Labor. Figuring on breaking even on the shooting side of the business. $6 a round seems like a pretty decent price now as a non-member at a club. And even at that price the volume has to be pretty darn high.

The trap ranges in my area, SoCal are commerical for profit operations, no volunteers. A round of trap ranges between $7.00 and $8.50

Using your own numbers our cost are over $2 per case higher or based upon $8 per case cost means we are paying 25% more for targets than you are up north. This type of cost factor is on many other things like components, lead etc. Florida clubs are not ripping off the shooters like the claim of people like Indyshotgun aka GW22

Yes, $2 per CASE definitely justifies an extra $5 per ROUND.

    Brilliant.

The last couple of skids of birds we purchased came out around $9 a case. We're charging $3.50 a round. 5 rounds per case = $17.50 gross per case.

We're a shooter owned club, so for now we can survive on that.

The cost of targets for a round of trap is about $2.00. Most of the other costs related to throwing the targets should be paid for by member dues. HMB

GW22/Indy.... This club is currently charging $5.50 per round to members. Their cost is $5.83 so ther are losing $.33 per round!!! No organization can tolerate losing money for long.

Weast Central Ill. $3.25 for MEMBER 25 round practice and $3.50 NON member practice. Money shoots that pay off $5.00 and $2.00 are $3.25 for 10 birds. We also have "Draw Buddy" shoots (10) shooters for the same price but pays double the $5 and $2.
