Looking at both, it comes down to life expectancy, since they are both in the same price range and level of finish.

Kia has come a long way, and it seems like Toyota has their lots crammed with overstock.

    Opinions?

    What to do:

Go to the nearest library and look up Consumer Reports reviews of both vehicles...(there are other similarly named magazines that accept money from advertisers and are by definition, less objective).....

See what the reliability/repairs history is.....you can also go to Edmunds, Blue Book, etc.

Both Kia & Hyundai has a very good quality record & the best warranty on the market. Have owned 2 Hyundai Sonata's & they were excellent.

I have a Toyota Tacoma & quality is great as well, but for the money & warranty I would buy a Kia.

Not to take anything from Kia, which makes fine vehicles, but the resale value of Toyota is far better. Assuming the initial price is similar, they total in and out cost will be far less with the Toyota. Of course it you keep either one until the wheels fall off it resale value won't matter but if you only keep it for a few years it sure will.

For Mr. Apple- A reasonable person would assume that HM has already looked at other brands and has narrowed his choice to these two.

With all the recall problems Toyota has had for the last
year and a half, I don't understand why anyone would consider
    buying one.

Oh yea, the Kia also has a great warranty, far better than the Toyota or just about anything else. I owned a Kia once and it was a very good vehicle. Only problem was that the dealer went out of business and the nearest one was 100 miles away. Had to get rid of it because of that.

Why not buy and support from a domestic auto company like Ford, GM, Chrysler? Why send more money oversees!!
