That's great, Mark, and I understand it follows a 99 a couple of days ago. Terrific shooting!

Thanks to all for your thoughts. Naturally I was quite excited when that last target shattered. But thinking back on what was going through my mind as I was in the process of breaking the hundred, I recall that several bits of advice taken from other shooters really helped. I remember Ray Stafford told me once breaking 100 from the 27 was really not much difference than running 100 singles. At the time I thought, yea, maybe for him and his fifty-one career 100 straights, but I kept reminding myself of Ray's words as I shot the last fifty. I also used Phil Kiners breathing technique advice to keep my nerves as calm as possible for the last 15 shots. As we went out to shoot the last trap, I remember how relaxed Rich Stuntebeck was for his first 100 from 27 when he simply said, "let's do it" as we went out to shoot the last trap during the Great Lakes Grand a few years ago. So as we went out to shoot our last trap, I said to my squad leader, "any advice?" Before he could answer, I said "I know, don't miss!"

And lastly, I took a tip from my daughter Kelsey who started me on the process of kissing my last shell before loading it in my gun about three or four years ago. So far it's worked for about 70 hundred straights in the 16's and four 200's. Now it worked for my 100 from 27. I hope that each of you have the chance to use those tips on your way to the 100. Just don't try the shell kiss on doubles, I can tell you, it doesn't work for two targets at once.

And then the best part of running the hundred was the large number of shooters who stopped to say "great job." It didn't matter if I knew them or not, I think almost every shooter, that knew I was the hundred shooter, came over to congratulate me. This included All-Americans and "D" shooters alike. It just confirmed to me what I have known for some time, the best part of our sport is the people that participate in it.
