Congrats to two of my good friends and two great guys, Todd Bender and Kurt Grates, for their performance at the World Skeet Shoot.

Todd won the HAA and HOA outright and Kurt won the 20 gauge in shoot-off.

I know it is skeet but great guys and great performances (especially with shotguns) deserve to be recognized.

Todd and Kurt shot the Claytarget Championship a couple of times and we did a trap/skeet shootout at the Grand twice.

And Kurt is, if I remember correctly, a 25 or 26yd handicap shooter.

Both are great guys! I sent Todd a text message congratulating him yesterday. It is always nice to win something outright, and not having to shootoff. Kurt is also a sponsor of this site (Great Lakes Sporting Arms).

To also let you all know what a great feat these gentlemen both acomplished, Kurt had 60 people to shoot off against. There were 60 100's and Kurt outlasted them all.
Now for Todd, he is the first person in history to ever shoot 3 consecutive 550's at the World Skeet Championships. Most people never break one in a lifetime and Todd did it 3 times in a row! A record that may never be broken. That is impressive.

    Betterduckshot,

For those of us recreational skeet shooters, could you explain what a 550 is.

A 550X550 is a high overall score constisting of

250 straight in the 12 gauge,

    100 straight in 20, 100 straight in 28,

and at the end of the tournament when everybody

is out of gas 100 straight in the 410.

410 is tough it's only 1/2 ounce of shot

Normally in skeet you shoot 400 targets however, at the world

the 12 gauge event is 250 targets, 125 shot each day.

550 straight hits in a row all gauges over 5 days in Texas weather.

    3 years in a row!

That is why it is such an incredible feat of shooting.

    Bds,

Thanks! I was trying to figure out where the extra 150 targets came from.

The 410 bore is a truely humbling experience. When you think you're shooting good, get the 410 out and everything comes right back to reality.

    Sportshot,

Todd only won the HOA 550 and the HAA 650. He did not win any of the gun championships.
