I have a 1953 Win. 42 that I acquired about 5 years ago. It has turned into my favorite dove gun. It has some miles on it,but appears to never have had the side plate off. I'm sure it needs a thorough cleaning. I would like recommendations as to who I might trust with it. Simmons?

With care you should be able to do this yourself.

I have a copy of the book "Sequence of take-down and assembly instructions" by Winchester. It looks a whole lot more complicated than my model 12. I may give it a try anyhow. Thanks for the encouragement.

Main thing to avoid is buggering up the sideplate screws. Make sure your screwdriver FITS. Pay attention to the flat spring located under the sideplate.
