I have cleaned a receiver of an old shotgun down to the bare metal, and I do not want to put any bluing on it. Is there any clear coating or sealer that will prevent rust? Thanks.

Are we talking wall hanger or hunting tool?

If you're feeling really energetic (and have power tools), polish it to a mirror finish and you might be surprised how rust resistant it is.

Otherwise, Min-Wax spray polyurethane in gloss or semi-gloss is pretty tough. Good luck.

Brownels has some Baking Enamel products that work for this type of project.
