Maybe I can get an answer on site tomorrow but if RJ Stuart is correct in posting winners, the Class D Singles winner in event number 1 at the Cardinal Classic is indeed a classic example of someone not doing their job at the classification desk. A shooter with 900 singles targets and an average of 96.89% shoots a perfect 100 and wins D class? Why the hell was this shooter put in D to begin with?

He hasn't had a review. Probably a "natural".

You don't get reviews for singles, your average is what it is.

It's a lot easier to classify shooters after you see the scores.

That is enough to make you go hmmmmmm.

What did the Tournament Director say when you asked him or brought it to his attention. Surely Brad wouldn't be ok with that.

My guess is you don't have all the target info, or maybe the wrong individual? I'm not checking it right now, but i'd think you needed more than 900 lifetime targets to get into D at the Grand.

The shooter was from Australia, if that means anything.

    Here's some relevant info . . .

The shooter is new to the ATA, first targets shot were at this year's Grand American (all 900). Wonder if he walked into Cardinal Center with no card, and probably the computer didn't have the info yet?

At the Grand he was classified AA during prelim week, and for Grand week he was AAA.

If that is the case, then it's on the shooter too, as clearly he should have known he wasn't a D class shooter. But the classification desk had to have missed this one, if you walk in with no card and no scores you shouldn't be in D.

As for playing the money, the only option on the singles was Lewis and a 100 straight paid $48.

The bigger question is if he was reclassified.

    From the program . . .

Shooters’ yardage and classification will be ATA assigned yardage or at the
discretion of the classification committee. New shooters without an established
average for 16 yard targets and doubles targets shall be placed in class B or
higher at the discretion of the classification committee.

I think some penalty should be in store for this shooter, If he was classified a week ago AAA, and didn't disclose it, it deserves a penalty.

Somebody "F'd" up big time. Why did the shooter not speak up? That's wrong.

Happens a lot. Several years ago at the Grand there was a rash of C and D winners breaking 199s and 200s who had carried 94+% averages for the last decade.

On a couple of occasions I have had to talk my way out of a classified that was merely based on my most recent score

That's the real question,Matt. I think there should be a suspension, without a reasonable explanation. This is a very flagrant violation by the shooter.

I'd be too embarrassed to show my face or talk to my friends if I went thru classification with those averages and walked out in D singles and B doubles.

You can Google him, lots of shoot results from Australia. He's not a new shooter, I found results back to 2006.

    Somebody wasn't paying attention.

Should management make things right for the competitors who lost out on the awards that they didn't get? HMB
