Is alive and well. How long before we run out of high grade wood? Quality high grade wood blanks are getting harder to find. I think wood will be the next thing being hoarded. Buy it while you can.

What Doug means is that after 80-100 years, walnut trees lose production.....the farmer wants walnuts.....so what happens is the orchard is pulled, and a sub division is built, or new walnut trees are planted. Those trees are engineered to grow fast, get into production fast.....and the end of high grade wood is at hand. If you have paid any attention to english prices in the past 10 years, you know that $1000 one sided blanks rule these days. Be prepared to pay for a stick with color, figure, and lays out right the same on both sides, if you can find one.

Many years ago, when the guy opened one of his safes, I wasn't expecting to see just two pieces of wood at all. He told me it's not likely we will see another pieces like these offered for sell.

That two pieces of woods turned into one of my stocks 6 month later.

Steve, that last one is one of the nicest I've ever seen.

Some years ago Gordon Smith, owner of Old Tree Gun Blanks, was a regular on this site, and offered some pretty nice blanks at discounted prices to TS.com readers. I bought a couple of pieces from him, and one now is waiting to be made into a custom stock for my Ruger #1. Some curmudgeons here objected to his "advertising without becoming a sponsor" and eventually he stopped posting. I think it was our loss.

The following are a couple of pictures of the wood for the Ruger. I will add more as the work progresses. The pictures don't really do the blank justice. The white is just paraffin on the surface.

Doug, I'm calling for you to be removed from any further posting on ts.com. The wood porn has to stop!!! You sure have a way of tempting those of us that are wood junkies. Larry

    www.morningwoood.com

But currently it's under construction for about two weeks to upload more blanks that are coming in.

P.S. Make sure you put three O'S in wood or you'll get a porn site lol
