I would say your thinking to much if you think changing chokes will help well if you hit it you hit it.

I just started shooting doubles (300 shot at so far) have been using mod and imp mod. I thought about using skeet or on IC for first shot.

Good question. Keep in mind that it can vary depending on two factors. 1- your skill level, how fast you shoot. 2- What loads you are using. IMO, usually the first shot can range from a tight IC to a MOD (the faster you shoot, the more open the constrictions CAN be. So an LM or MOD MAY be a good one to START with. The second will be farther, so you will need to tighten up the choke constrictions. Some say go one step tighter from your current 16 yard choke OR an IM to a FULL. MAYBE a LF will be a good starting point. Than you can pattern and shoot a few rounds. Some very experienced shooters say to lock the trap machine and just shoot the first bird then change over and just shoot the second, good practice and you can tell how the clays are breaking which can help you determine the correct choke. Don't forget to bring a buddy with some experience to help you out. Then you can go and hit them. Hope this helps. Jeff.

I agree with Cyrus. I shoot mod first then full. I am in no way a Great shooter but. Am very fast on my shots so I need it open.

most fixed chokes o/u are choked something like lt mod and lt full. I use mod/imp mod cause those are the tubes I have. I figure the factories know something. fwiw I'm not very good at doubles, but it isn't the choke.

I shoot a 13 thou on the first bird and there are lots of times I catch myself looking too long at that cloud of dust. That said, it still works for me. When I miss a first bird it's because I wasn't ready to call "pull"

I practice with a LF and XF with scores 35-40. I shoot with Skeet and LF chokes with scores of 40 to 48.

Long way to say whatever works for you.

In Montana at the higher elevations and light air, IC and Mod is plenty of choke for doubles.
