Checkering old Win Mod 88

    I have a Win Mod 88 that i bought new 50 plus years ago. T orig. checkering
    is 99 % gone. I would like to have it redone before it goes to mygrandson
    I live in the dead center of Minn. somebody close would be nice
    Any idea of who might tackle such a job?

    If the checkering is that worn, more than likely the rest of the wood shows lots of dings and scuffs as well as wear. If the metal is still blue and in good condition, consider finding a new stock to put it in or have the old stock completely refinished which would include bringing the checkering back to a fresh cut condition.

    Otherwise, he might enjoy having it as is, just as you hunted with it.

    I would much rather have my grandfathers old rifle with all the wear and character he put into it so that I would always think of him, than a "refurbished" piece that had no meaning and little value. Tony
