The greatest president the NRA ever had.

    Pretty good actor, too.

Chuck, wherever you've gone, I hope there's shooting. If there isn't, I'm not going myself.

Who's left, perhaps Kirt Douglas from the golden years of Hollywood. Any others? May you find a Happy Hunting Ground...Mike

I read the article about him on Fox - one forgets how much this man was able to accomplish throughout his life. I'm sure he wasn't a saint, but from all outward appearances, he had enough debits to ensure a ride on the "up" escalator of life!

I read this on the msn homepage a few minutes ago and for some reason went to the comments section. You would not believe all the nut cases that have Internet out there.

Great actor and more importantly a great man.

    Godspeed.

"From my cold dead hands," Thank you Mr. President. I shook his hand at the St. Louis NRA meeting several years ago. Good guy and at last he is at rest......Roger

He was my favorite actor. His breed of actors is vanishing fast. While many of those today are the Jane Fonda liberal type, his generation produced many who supported, and in many cases served in the armed forces. He was a Radio operator/ Gunner in the AAF in WW2.

My wife and I attended the NRA sendoff for him in Orlando FL. a few years back. Absolutely fantastic and changed a staunch Democrat from birth (my wife) into a Republican overnight!!

I met him in Vietnam 1966. One day he and a Marine Capt. came strolling around the the bunkers. He's the only civilian that I ever saw come into a combat area. He stopped and chatted with us for a few minutes. Acted like it was no big thing to be walking around, even though we had snipers popping off on us all the time. He was cool.

the fact that the NRA changed the by-laws just for him to continue as president sort of says it all for me -

He also turned some potential NRA members off with his "no one needs an AK47" and that ballistic fingerprinting :might be a good idea". Combine that with a lot of distrust due to his intense campaigning for the Gun Control Act of 1968 and it's no wonder NRA membership did not increase very much under his guidance.

Brian, how about giving the man a break for a couple of days after his death. Despite his faults, Charlton Heston did more for the NRA and gun owners in this country than 10,000 anonymous Brians in Oregon or wherever.
