Cause of a ring in the Barrel?

    Any idea what would cause a ring in the barrel at the end of the chamber? Would this ring be a concern and would it create any other problems? This is on a 12 gauge single barrel.

    If it's at the end of the chamber, make sure a gunsmith examines it before you consider shooting it again. If it's at the end of the barrel, just before the choke, it's many times caused caused by shooting steel shot, and nothing to worry about; only I wouldn't shoot any more steel in it.

    Not trying to be too simplistic here but is there a distinct bulge in the barrel where the ring is located? If not, perhaps you are seeing the transition where the chamber ends and the forcing cone begins. Or where the forcing cone ends and the bore proper begins.
