The following are not my ideas, although I do agree they are great questions. Hauxfan!

Why is it every time the government passes some new law designed to "help" somebody or something, it is actually a penalty to those who have done the right thing?

Cash for Clunkers- If you already drive a car with good MPG = no soup for you.

Mortgage bailout - what you bought a house you could afford and are making the payments? = no soup for you

Financial Bailout - Great job local banker, you stayed out of the sub prime mess and don't need gov't assistance = we will now charge you higher annual fees to cover the costs of bailing out your competitors.

Pell grants - your parents worked their arses off to become middle class = you'll be paying us back, no grants for you.

    others? what am I missing?

    Thanks for reading.

    Hauxfan!

Well, I guess the question then becomes...

Do you want to be up to your ass in alligators with no credit rating waiting for a government you may not trust to toss you a bone, or do you want to be living a reasonably comfortable lifestyle and complaining about the deals others are getting but knowing that you don't have to depend on anyone for help?

I agree Hauxfan. It has always been this way and is going to get worse as the pressure on the "haves" is going to be increasing in the near future. The "have not's" are increasing in numbers and voting in people who agree with their socialistic agenda's.

I do not for one minute think we should deny welfare to those among us who cannot take care of themselves, but I personally know families who are third generation welfare recipients and they are just as capable of earning their way as anyone, yet they don't because welfare is so easy to obtain. Their current lifestyle exceeds mine in my growing up and the early stages of my family raising. I worked two jobs while my kids were young because my full time job did not pay well enough for us to get ahead of the game financially. You can be anything you desire if you have your health and a little work ethic, but it is becoming easier and easier to just become a parasitic slacker too.
Rush Limbaugh made a good point when he said "We have the wealthiest poor people in the world" and he was right.

I'm going to post a ling to an interview concerning the proposed health plan. This is scarry indeed. I've seen a plan similar to this once before, it was proposed and implemented by Germany's National Socialist Party in the 1930s. For those who don't know, the NSP was the official name of the Nazi party.

I'll post it under the title Health Plan Warning

CRP is just the tip. A lot of farmers I know vote Dumbocrap just for the agriculture welfare. There are all kinds of subsidies and insurance paid with tax money. Larry

CRP does at least have the beneficial long term objective of ensuring there will be usable land and people to farm if/when it is needed. Call it welfare if you will but it isn't quite in the same league as paying people to live their lives as crack addicts.

I have killed a whole lot of pheasants on CRP land in ND and have many more positive experiences getting permission to hunt than negative. Also I never fail to limit out in those rooster havens. The key is in showing respect, it is their land after all and they don't owe we the tax payers a thing.

wolfram,,,,based on your thought, "its their land after all",,,,then I guess as taxpayers we don't OWE them anything as well....if they can't manage their income and expenses based on the revenue from it, why should WE pay them????

We are a nation of plenty when it comes to our ability to produce food. That means there are supluses and there is a strong possibility to overproduce. Overproduction means crashing market values which could wipe out a lot of farmers. If enough farmers get wiped out we no longer have the convienient reserves that get us through a few bad growing seasons. Also it is possible to overfarm land to the point that it becomes unproductive.

The role of CRP is conserving resources (hence the name) and guess what there are no free lunches there either. The true cost of our groceries is a little bit higher than what you see at the store. Yes it is a government program using our tax money but you at least have a chance of getting something back from it. (steady food supply)

If any of you think this isn't necessary and we don't have problems like this, take a look at what is going on in the dairy industry on the west coast these days. Dairy farms are going broke because of overproduction. You don't just stop milking your cows or stop feeding them. Eventually enough of these producers will go out of buisiness and kill their stock and then we will see the price of dairy products increase dramatically. We will also be at risk of dairy shortages should there be problems with the few surviving dairies.

Now to the issue of what these people owe us the tax payer it is nothing, and if you see it another way that is probably the reason you won't ever get to know any farmers much let get permission to hunt on their land. The program isn't for making lazy farmers rich it is for looking after the interests of the non-farming tax payers.

I look at a state like Iowa and wonder, how did a state without large segments of it's population minorities living on the government tit throw away traditional American values and become so liberal they voted for the terrorist, muslim radical Hussein Obama. It has to be that the farmers are on their own government tit. I think the government is going to run out of titties. We are using so many we have to borrow a few hundred billion tits a year from communist China.

I guess I hit a nerve in the cornbelt. I do many of the things you listed. You are correct that I am wasting my time here though. Have fun with your trap shooting, at least while you can.

Can't blame the republicans for any of what has happened lately though. Plus the democrats have been running our state since 1998 and they have controlled the purse strings on the federal pocketbook for 43 years out of the last 57. Both spend too much and usually they do it by buying votes with your tax dollars.
