Explain how a professional shooter who admits trap shooting is his career on you tube yet he can still shoot and compete in amateur ata shoots? Futhermore, he admits to teaching 60 classes a year for income. IS there no rule against professionals. Competing as a amateur must be a lie. Get the beer popcorn out. LOL
An amateur in the dictionary is described as a non-professional. Let me see. 60 classes a year at $350.00 a class x average 5 shooters = a career in trapshooting/professional.
"Explain how a professional shooter who admits trap shooting is his career on you tube yet he can still shoot and compete in amateur ata shoots?"
You are correct he can still in amateur ATA shoots.
"Futhermore, he admits to teaching 350 classes a year for income."
That would make him a professional Teacher not a professional Trap Shooter
"IS there no rule against professionals."
The ATA rulebook say "All shooters are considered amateurs and shall be entitled to all rights as set forth in these Rules.
"Competing as a amateur must be a lie."
That would depend on how you read the rule!!!!!
What part of the rule don't you understand??? The rule has nothing to do with anyone that has a very high opinion of himself. That is all I am getting from what you are telling us.
BTW teaching 350 Classes a year only leaves 15 days to trap shoot. With that little amount of time for competing he can only be a professional in his own opinion of himself.
"Wrong about entering the LEWIS class (Pure Bull). That does not make you a professional."
If you want to play semantics, you can't have it two ways. You are the one that wants to argue amateurism. By every definition of amateurism, receiving any prize of value, other than a trophy or memento, disqualifies your amateur status.
Please look up the rules of golf, tennis, boxing or other sports where they have both amateur and professional events. Taking prize money is even a dis qualifier by NCAA terms.
SOOOOO, either you are making a semantics argument, as you did when you quoted the dictionary, or you are making a morality argument, which you are trying to make by saying taking money doesn't disqualify your amateur status.
I give up. Amateur can teach the sport, earn a living from the sport, get free shells and guns, get paid sponsors, deduct expenses on taxes as a professional. I guess the dictionary describes a amateur as a non-professional is a lie. Who's bullshi??? who.
Please tell when was the last time one of these notorious Big Dogs stepped onto the field at your local club and took all your sheckels?
Ivanhoe is correct he (they) are professional Teachers that happen to be very gifted shooters. There is no rule to prevent you from joining their ranks. All you have to do is pony up the dollars, time and intestinal fortitude to do it.
I have always looked at it this way their are a lot of really good weekend golfers, they would love to compete at the masters or any other big tournament against the best, well that is what we as shooters get to do, compete against the best, we get our asses kicked so what, tell that to the kid a couple of years ago that won the 100,000 in the shoot off at the grand, Harlan was in the shoot off that day, the kid beat a couple of all americans, that is what is great about our sport, just play the lewis, and have fun shootin, after all most of us ain't doing this for a livin, if you get a little money back, you have had a good day..dk
Looks like you finally figured it out, we are all amateurs, according to the rules of the ATA. There is no other sport like it, If you are good enough you are going to win, If your not you get one of the many participation prizes.
Just so I'm clear...I pay $27.00 to shoot a registered event, I have a good day, win my class and get 20 bucks back...now I'm a professional trap shooter because I got prize money??
I think YOUR definition of Professional needs a little tweaking. If I'm still in the hole, I am NOT making money.
That's like the fools that play slot machines and dump $500.00 in walk out with $300.00 and think they are winners. Must be Obama math
It's the same concept now isn't it? You participated and received money for it.
The amount is not relevant to definition.
As said above, you want that "easy money", lay it out there like "they" have, sit back and let it roll in. There's only one person stopping you....
Have nice day! Dan
