I have a couple acquaintances thinking it's just peachy keen.

I guess that will put the final nail in our trade coffin, since China, Indonesia, and the rest of our competitors will have no part of it.

This jackass is going to kill our country. I just hope someone comes along to pick up the pieces and do it right next time.

Cap & Trade will hurt all retirees, many who have to live on fixed incomes. It will drive up the costs of everything you buy due to fuel cost increases, higher electric bills and only leaves one with empty promises such as the creation of so-called green jobs (whatever a green job is). Think about all of the jobs lost as a result of these increse costs. Time to vote these Cap & Trade politicians out of office whether they be Democrats or Republicans. It will prove to be a lose - lose for all consumers. BT-100dc

I believe that's "cap and tax".

If this passes, unemployment will be well above 15%. This will kill the midwestern states.

    Party on Barry.....

Cap and trade actually makes sense in the socialist scheme of things. Evidently the brain trust has figured out that it isn't possible to borrow money from yourself if you are broke. The bailout/give away money has to come from somewhere.

    Tim has it right.

You remember Ross Perot talking about the "sucking sound" when NAFTA was being lined up for passage...sucking the jobs out of this country?

Well here's the rest of it. NAFTA picked off the low-hanging fruit; now Cap'n trade will start grinding away at what's left. The CBO calculated that Cap'n trade will only cost the "average" family another $175 a year. Maybe so, but people in the Midwest will pay a lot more, and corporations? Sheeeet, energy is much, much more than a $175 monthly line-item in their budget. This will not help them keep jobs here at all. They'll just go away and contribute to someone else's economy.

Yes, I know...manufacturing isn't what it used to be & our economy isn't based on it anymore. Maybe true, but it's still a very important part of the "core" of this country's economy, and when it's gone - it's gone. Germany managed to keep itself a relative economic powerhouse within Europe, even despite all their social programs, by maintaining a strong export-oriented manufacturing base. Now it's being chipped away at. We still have a good portion of ours left.

Don't be stupid, people. Write those emails. This is what we get for electing someone from the NON-PROFIT SECTOR to the presidency.

In Wisconsin most of our electicity comes from coal. The estimate was about 3 thousand a year more for normal homes.

Meanwhile, India and China will not cap a damn thing.

Silver lining: No one here will be able to buy their crap.

I have not had a chance to read the law as passed by the house but was told it will require homeowners to replace appliances, air conditioners etc. to new green appliances when selling their home. No exceptions.

True or not I have not confirmed but it upset one of our clients so bad he wants to sell his current home before the law takes affect.

And the "Acorn'ers" that live in subsidized housing will continue to feed at the public through without paying a thing.

Ain't this country great or what?
