They say use the same recipe for Claydot as you do for Clays is that true?

Generally, yes, but its always best to use the actual powder manufacturer's data.

Go to the Alliant website and download their date tables.

Clays and Clay Dot are very similar, but not exactly the same. If using Clay Dot, I'd prefer to use the data compiled by the manufacturer, Alliant. Mash the link above for their site. You may find that the data is similar or exactly the same, but I would not bet the farm that it will be identical for every load imaginable. If your load is not listed, call or email Alliant and ask for their advice.

I switched from Clays back to Red Dot and like the performance of Red Dot. Better measure the drops to meet your formulas. Red Dot 18.2 in AA or STS hull, AA primer, Spolar 1 oz. wad, #8's, makes a very comfortable 16 yard shell. Fred
