Take heed my American friends, fortunately in Canada we finally elected a government that abolished the firearms registry but we still have the stupid law that says we are not allowed to defend ourselves or our property. Maurice ( The Brit. )

Maurice - We are allowed to defend ourselves, WITHIN our home, but not from a threat outside our home. This is from a case in B.C. several years ago, where the resident had a history of harassment from an individual. When the bad guy showed up outside the residence, shouting death threats, the homeowner armed himself, and when the door was kicked in, the homeowner shot the bad guy. It went all the way to the Supreme Court, and the decision that came down was that we no longer have to run out the back door to get away as the bad guys come in the front. We should be able to feel safe within our home, and can defend ourselves within it, with the degree of force necessary.

In this particular case, there was a long history between the two parties, and with the public death threats and violent entry of the residence, the homeowner was let go. I don't remember if it was an acquittal or not guilty verdict, or if it was a dismissal of the charges, but the end result was that your home is your castle, and you can defend it from bad guys within it.
