If new shells are mandatory at Grand, can you keep your hulls? Tony

Yes, but not if they hit the ground.

Thanks, I keep reading about the mountain of hulls and was hoping if we had to buy new shells, least let me have my hulls. Tony

The real challenge will be when competitors at the Grand will only be allowed to sign-up for events with proof they are using a NEW gun AND new factory shells...pre-owned guns and reloads not allowed. Regards, Ed

I can feel the flames already...

We sold a target box full of once fired STS shells for $20.00, they went quick.

Last year at the Grand we picked some new hulls from the garbage cans. People were leaving the line and emptying their trap pouches in the garbage cans.

There were many 40 yard dumpsters up on the hill just full of once fired hulls.

    Such a waste.

That is about right. 20.00 is fair as a real full target box will hold about 500 hulls. They were getting about .04 cents each which is about the going rate. Jeff

I find this hard to believe.

Actually, all hulls are supposed to be given to any 71 year old ATA shooter from Waterloo, Ia that is on the grounds.........

Well, maybe not........but I thought it was worth a try..... ;)

When I started shooting, The Grand was how we got once fired hulls. I'll bet the once fired empties in drums and dumpsters were not AA or RXP.

After shooting is done for the day, you can go down range and get your wads and shot back too. Just bring a dust pan and a broom and you can sweep them up and use them in your reloads. HMB

A 40 yard dumpster would hold approximately 360,000 hulls acording to my calcuations. I have a paper box that I put 500 AA hulls in. The total volume of the box is 1.5cf. so 40 cy times 27 (cf in a yard) = 1080cf. / 1.5 = 720 paper boxes time 500 hulls per box is 360,000 hulls. That's 14,400 boxes!!!! If there was a few loaded dumpesters that would me over a million. And I thought I had alot!

When I reloaded this is how I would get "new" hulls from shooters.

Once I spotted a shooter shooting factory loads, I would approach them carrying an empty mesh hull bag (on the belt type) and ask them if they would mind keeping the hulls for me...if they agreed I handed them the hull bag. Not surprisingly, the vast majority agreed to do it.

    Just a thought.
