    California

California is predominantly run(ruined) by democrats that are also running(ruining)Washington D.C. Their failures are hand in hand with Pelosi's gang and they are selling the United States out. She(they) will soon make the case why Socialism should be the path so California will be supported by us. This BOGUS failure by California is nothing more than a prop for the SOCIALIST politicians to dismantle democracy. Ed

YES,YES AND MORE YES,however, your missing out what 17 other states that have come up with a grand resolution, but we worker bee's must continue to breed, have children so they can work and support those in the govt and outside who vote for more govt.
This is what they have come up with, but first ask yourself if this new healthplan is so good how come all govt employee's,including congress, pres and everyone else doesnt sign on to it; if you came up with the healthplan is no good, your right. From yesterday to today,1,015 new pages have been added to it at a cost of 600 million dollars, hhmm,do u suppose its more pork?
If you look at the health plan as stated there are 88 stations they call it we have to go to with the last station being???? the IRS,ahh, before we get health services we must pay a new tax. So,lets look at it so far,we must pay new taxes to get new health care but before we get the health care we must first be approved by the new govt employees that will decide if we need health care and then we must pay a new tax for the medical care we might receive, got it.
Anyway, how are the states going to handle having no money?
Here's one way they are starting.
We are stupid, we should have that about it!
All govt employees,of course,no police, fireman and all workers that do good work for citizens like that dont count, will have Friday off, they will only work 4 days a week and be laid off the fifth day. The cities and states will save a lot of money,HOWEVER,those employee's laid off will be allowed to collect unemployment for the fifth day for 6 months so they have a full week of pay. In the end,we,our tax money will be used to pay them, after all, arn't they better than us. Arn't you sad your not a govt employee?

We just had a special election in California, as to its budget problems. Five of the six initiatives dealt with taxes and spending, if I recall correctly. The electorate voted them down by a 2-1 ratio. Did the Democrats in the State assembly get the message after this defeat??? Hell no!! Their solution is raise everyones taxes. They have government employees, the teachers and the education lobby, and legions of illegal aliens and welfare parasites that they have prostituted their alligiance to. That is their constituency. The tax base in this state is slowly but steadily leaving for more friendly venues. The only thing that is helping is that the state constitution requires a 2/3 vote and the opposition party has enough seats to block their tax increases....

So that means Lord Soetoro actually only got 19 million votes last November. That's a lot of hanging chads.

    doggai,

Before you start laying blame about a retirement system maybe should understand it. The CALPERS retirement system is a private system and is one of largest ones in the world. Hence that is why it has been very successful. That is one of the reasons our Governor wants his hands on our billions of dollars. If that happened we would be in the same boat of waiting for the 2,000 dollars from Uncle Sam at what age 67.

Thank god we have a strong portfolio to keep him away from the private money. The courts have also supported us. Before anyone bad mouths the 30 year retirement for Police they should understand the average life after the job. When we retire at the age of 55 we lived a wopping 3 to 5 years. Since it has been established for most of us at fifty we make it for 7 to ten. Boy I might be able to make it to sixty.

I would like to know how many weekends, nights, holidays, 24 hour shifts, you have done in your working period. How many games or family events have you missed over the years to help out those that are in need.

I ask that before one listens to the crap on TV to do some research and ask one of your LEO's.

I have to admit a certain amount of sheer pleasure in watching what California is going through. That 2/3 majority thing for tax increases has really put the state budget in a strangle-hold, and I love it! It's a joy to watch. They say California sets the trend for the rest of the country. Well, I can't think of a better example to show people, for what America will be like if we punt and cave in to Obama's policies.

    Everybody is entitled to everything?

....Let us know how that works out for ya.

How many times have I worked nights or shifts I didn't want? That situation is restricted only to law enforcement? Oh really!! Were you conscripted into law enforcement or a volunteer? My guess is a volunteer. I know people who were drafted into the military and had experienced the same scenario. No one cried for them. I am extremely fond of the ongoing public relations bit about police having a dangerous job. The reality is they have a job where they have a greater liklihood of being murdered on the job than most but not all occupations. Convenient store clerks and taxi cab drivers are never murdered on the job. Just about any of the construction trades have higher workers comp rates and fatality rates than LEO. The most dangerous job per capita last year is what Sarah Palin and her husband do, commercial fisherman. 112 people lost their lives in that occupation last year. Oh, I wonder if they get 90% retirements for their efforts and sacrifice??

Why in the world would they want to put their money into the most mis-managed Ponzi scheme ever???? Maybe if the rest of us had the opportunity to INVEST a part of our SS into something that earns a RETURN, even at CD rates we would have so much money in our retirement,,,,but no the naysayers scare the crap out of people so they can keep using our SS money on the budget,,,,and I don't mean the SS budget,,,,thank you president roosevelt et. al. and thank you carter for putting illegal aliens on the doles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Waterhouse and warzone.

Did you bother to read my post where it states CALPERS is a private orginazation that it is not managed by any portion of the government.

As mentioned above that is what the system is. Those that want and choose to have the government manage their retirement have at it. We all went without cost of living raises for many years to secure a retirement.

How much do you pay for legal defense issues that arise on the job when anybody and everybody tries to sue you and your family. That is one cost that I am sure you have never asked about and had no idea we go through numerous state and federal law suits in our thirty years of service.

I did not say there weren't other jobs out there that did not require 24/7 work did I. I asked a simple question to the original poster. I am still curious how many holidays etc. that you and others have missed. I was in the military for many years and had no shot at a decent retirement and again that was away from family and missed way to many holidays to count.

You are simple amazing. Like you're the only one who has to defend himself against possible legal action. Ever heard of malpractice insurance? No doctor has ever been away from his family on holidays etc. Cry me a river pal! The fact remains, that you were a volunteer to perform this job. You can find sympathy under S in the dictionary....

As for CALPERS being private, so what! The real problem is the cost to taxpayers to provide DEFINED BENEFIT PLANS to public employees. (i.e. I want this much and I don't care how expensive it is to fund) Those of us that actually work in the private sector and have to actually compete in quality, price, and service don't even receive those types of plans. Mainly because our employers don't have the power to tax. This needs to be changed to a defined contribution plan like everyone in the real world...........

I own my own business, a small machine shop.....I worked 18 to 20 hours a day to get this place going, and enjoyed a couple of good years, we are now working 10 to 12 hours a day, to pay for our health insurance, payroll, tooling, material, etc....

pension????? what pension, I pay double on ss taxes, I match my employees ss taxes, I have to exclude my wife and myself from workcomp policy to save money.

we finally received a decent job from one of our customers, and it is only going to last till they get the first order in from China, they can make the parts and ship overseas for what we have to pay for material to run the part.

we pay 5.4% of our gross payroll for IL unemployment insurance, and the great thing about this is if I go out of business, I can't even receive it.

so, do you really want me to tell you what I think about your pension, after retiring after working for 30 years?????
