Construction began on March 25, 2011 on the bunker field at Pikes Peak Gun Club, Colorado Springs, CO. While just some dirt piles and a hole in the ground for the bunker at present, we hope to be in operation by the end of May this year. The bunker will be open Wednesday thru Sunday to members, guests and the public. We will be offering clinics for anyone interested and also clinics especially for youth shooters.

We will keep updating information as things change and construction continues, with photos of our progress. We are very excited to be able to offer bunker shooting for Colorado Springs, visiting and area shooters. We hope that you will come join us when we get up and running.

Things are moving along and today (4/16) our guys laid out the bunker and built forms for the footers. We should be pouring the concrete for the footers on Tuesday and then have the forms up for the walls by next week. It is hard to envision a bunker layout at this point but every week will bring us closer to a completed project and a great addition to our shooting facilities and visiting shooters. Stay tuned ...

    Just making sure ....

Tis a cold (45 degrees, windy day at Pikes Peak but our guys are hard at work to get our bunker project completed as fast as possible. At least in the hole the wind is not blowing. They plan to have the rest of the forms up for the walls and stairs and the rebar installed for a wall pour on Friday. The weather is supposed to be warmer and less wind. Jeremy, our ramrod, is confident that we will be shooting in record time. Stay tuned ...

We got a day behind on the pour but today (4/26) in spite of some nasty, windy, snowy/rainy/hail our guys toughed it out. Four trucks later the foundation was poured and is beginning to look like a bunker. The forms will come off tomorrow, next week it will get back filled and then the drains will be put in. When they are in Jeremy will pour the floor and service stairway. Some nice weather would help a lot. The roof and the shooting pad will be next. Check back to see the progress and start making plans to come visit us.

    4/27 ....

AS planned, the crew stripped the forms off the bunker walls today in cold, windy and snowy weather. These guys are more than dedicated and deserve a big thanks from the Pikes Peak Gun Club. When the concrete cures in a few more days they will back fill and then pour the floor and shooting pad. It is finally looking like a bunker.

    5/4 ...

A week of nasty cold, snow, hail, lightning and wind put the guys off their schedule some. They did get the drains in today, tarred the walls and are now ready for the back fill which we hope will happen this week.

We may have been a bit over optometrist about our opening date of the end of May but we will certainly work to get it done as soon as humanly possible. We decided to disassemble the traps, clean them up, inspect them, test them for function and repair/replace whatever issues we find so when we put them in there will not be any hitches. I for one am learning a lot about the traps and how they work. This is a dirty but fun operation. More later .....

5/13 ... One of these days it will stop snowing, hailing and move out of freezing temperatures so the crew can get some more serious work done. As you can see, the bunker has been back filled and the forms for the shooting pad is in with all the conduit for the release speakers. We are hoping for a pour of the pads, floor in the bunker and stairs early next week. Our cleaning and refurbishing project on the traps to insure proper function when installed is moving at the rate of one trap a day. We will get there as many people are anxious to start throwing targets.

5/15 ... Well, the pad, floor and stairs were poured Friday on another nasty windy day. Today, Sunday, two of our guys were out cutting stress groves in the pad to prevent cracking. As you can see, the weather has not started to look like summer yet with 35 degrees, misty rain and some wind thrown in just to make sure it was nasty working conditions. We are all hoping that summer gets here soon. I heard someone say that if summer happens to fall on the 4th. of July we will have a picnic. The wind did stop blowing for a while today and I heard that half the people in Colorado fell down.

5/18 ... When I arrived at the club this morning to shoot a bit I noticed that the steel was in place for the front support for the roof. When I left at noon I passed our ramrod, Jeremy, who was headed in the driveway. Not sure what his plan is for today but maybe the roof will be cut and in place. I will know more on Friday when I head back out to shoot. Tomorrow will find me back at the trap update/cleaning process. I have 8 done so far. More later.

Dang Rick, it's Colorado. The wind blows 40mph all the time and I am not a heavy weight, ya know.

5/20 ... The roof is in place, supports are under it and the guys have built the forms to pour the roof tomorrow. They finally got a decent day to work. The roof concrete will have to cure for two weeks and then we can start grading and building the steel platform for the traps. We are moving at a good pace I think but I have to shoot less and spend more time cleaning and making sure the traps function correctly. We will get it there. More later ...

5/21 ... Right on schedule the truck showed up this morning to leave the concrete for the roof and the stair pad. The guys jumped to it and by 11:00 it was smooth. What a pleasure to watch guys who know what they are doing. Concrete work is done and we will move onto moving the dirt and getting the pedestals for the traps constructed. I will be back at Dan's garage on Monday and we will know what we need in the way of upgrade parts (if any) by the end of the week. Stay tuned ....
