Hi, I bought a used BT99 this week. It is an old style BT and the blueing is very good, hardly any wear on the receiver or lower trigger guard tang, and it locks up nice and tight. The stock and forearm are actually in pretty nice condition. The buttstock has been shortened at some time and then lenghtened at a later date. Length of pull is almost 15in which wouldn't be good for everyone, but I really like it. It has a very nice crisp trigger pull and I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I really hope that it works out for me.

Question is, the serial number is 71D065XX. I am assuming that this means that it was made in 1971?

The production of the BT-99 began in 1968. Production ceased in 1995.

To find your serial number, you will need to refer to your owner's manual. We have most owner's manuals online. You can go to those by clicking here.
Date Historic Information Serial Number Info
1968-75 1969 started using two digits for the date of manufacture and the following code:

The serial number began with 1000 for each year.
    Example: 0001D69 = A 1969 BT-99 shotgun with a serial number of 0001. D=BT-99
1976-1995 In 1976 Browning re-standardized its serial number identification. The BT-99 was discontinued in 1995.

Thanks everyone for the confirmation. It's hard to believe that the gun is 39 years old, and as I said, I really like the feel of it and I hope that it will work out for me. Thanks again.

PS: I forgot to mention that it has an adjustable comb that has been added to it so that should help me adjust to it.
