I am buying a BT-99 from a friend an he told me the serial # ended with RN399. I thought all the older ones ended with 149 after the 2 letters, as in XXXXXRN149.

Should the barrel number match the gun or what? I'm an ol' Remington 870 winger guy, so I don't know a lot about Brownings.

    Thanx Guys,
    Ron

I can't help much. The RN means 1979. I think the three additional numbers identify the specific grade and model. My BT99 ends in 171 and is a grade I with adjustable comb.
Barrel and action number should be the same.
