Today I came across a Browning O&U trap model and a BT 99, both with the Browning factory recoil systems installed in them, when you pulled them into your shoulder hard as if in recoil both snapped loudly and recoiled into itself with a lot of resistance. I have had no dealings with these and was wondering if this is just the way they work or is there a problem. I knew some one here would know. Thanks for any help.

What dawg meant to tell you was to try to locate a Timney direct replacement unit to install in place of the Browning OEM units. They sold for about $100 each. That will eliminate the unnerving "snap, crackle & pop" noises you heard.

That is the way they sound. I have never pulled one out to see if they required lube or not, but the action you felt is normal.

They work as intended, I don't know why they stopped making them.
