There appears to be 2 types of forearms for the BT'99, Competition and beavertail, What is the difference? Which one do most people like best?

The original BT99 from 1970 to 1975 had the beavertail forend kinda like the Ithaca 4E SBT's. The Competition Model 1976 and later had the fatter forend like the older Ithaca TM1's. The BT100 and recent BT99's have gone back to a slimmer beavertail style. I prefer the beavertail style as your hand gets closer to the barrel for that "hands in line" feel and it just points by itself.
