Walked in to my local gun store looking for a semi-auto, and the owner showed me a Browning A-500 G. Asking price $550.00, in very good condition, nice wood, Japanese made.

    1) I am not familiar with this Browning at all. Good things? Bad things?

    2) Is the asking price too high for this gun? I checked Blue Book (29th edition) and found that this gun in 100% condition is worth $575.00. The gun in question IMO is probably in 95% condition and is only worth $425.00 (again per the Blue Book). Opinions please?

    3) Would I be better off looking for a Beretta 391, as had been my intention all along?

Run as far and as fast away from that thing as you can. A nice 1100, 1187, SX1, or even gasp dare I say Beretta would be worlds better and you could even shoot them.

I dont agree- the A500 recoil is a gun that is as described above- doesnt work- breaks etc

The A500R and the A500G are two totally different guns

the A500 G (for gas) is one of the best pointing and probably is the softest feeling as far as recoil autoloader ever made-- I have had one since they were made

Rib is a little higher also

I have used mine for hunting and for skeet and sporting clays

negotiate the best deal you can but dont be afraid of this

Ask to try it for function if you are concerned

    regards from Iowa

I've had my A500R for 20 years now. No problems at all. But, THE GUN IS HEAVY compared to my 390 and 391s. John
