Looking at maybe buying a XT. Wondering for the $2000 if its the best gun around that price.

The XT is a great gun but the finish on the wood really detracts from the value. It's not that the finish is ugly, it's that it is very brittle and difficult to repair if it gets nicked. The finish will flake or turn white where the impact occurs; being a high gloss, every small nick or dent will show. I have made some repairs with crystal clear epoxy. You need to be really careful with it.

I would not hesitate to buy another, I have a Ultra XT built in 2000. Bought used. I have put 8000 rounds through the gun since January. No problems at all. I have seen plenty of deals on used ones.

Tomk2, What was the finding on your problem with the inertia block? What failed or malfunctioned? I have heard of fireing pin problems also with the XT. Any of your fellow XT shooters have any other issues?

Many shooters fail to release the trigger far enough after the first shot for the trigger to re-set. Hence, they blame it on the inertia block which is often not the problem. Good trigger-smiths can reduce that travel considerably.

The Browning guns are the best value out there!!

I think an 1100 classic is pretty inexpensive if your new to shooting. I have 35k+ rounds through my xt with no issues. Dan

Dollar for Dollar the best buy in a quality over/under, in my opinion (20k thru mine with no problems).

Browning has always been the best value for the money. Just look at the BT-99, in all it's various shades.

I'd say YES!! People don't send their XT in every year like they would with their high dollar guns and they still seam to last quite a while with out much trouble.

I've got a XT and would I get another, You bet!!!

The "best gun for the money" doesn't exist.
There are plenty of GOOD guns for the money, and the Browning XT is one of them.

Personally, the XT is ok. But, if I were to buy another Browning, I wouldnt buy the xt, I would buy a used Citori Plus. JMHO Steve
