Anybody have experience with the Briggs & Stratton 5hp outboard motor? Assume it's a little noisy but all I need is a small trolling motor for a 16' Jon Boat. Thanks.

As you can probably tell from my screen name, I am a Briggs fan. In fact I have been a Briggs Master Service Technician for the past 7 yrs. For the money you will not find a better 4-stroke outboard, period. Service and parts are available from any Briggs authorized dealer, currently 30,000 in the U.S. The Briggs outboard uses a basic Briggs lawnmower engine and is air cooled. As you know you don't have to mix oil with the gas. Briggs is a pioneer in the small engine industry and they have taken there experience and produced a great product. GO FOR IT!!

Now Now Tron now you are talking bad about the company I work for.

Ok we don't make the outboards but we only make the smaller rocket type motor's for the push mower's and pressure washers and anything else below the 5 h.p. range now we a re limited to making 10,200 a day instead of the 16,000 we used to make.

ftlupton where are you from do you know anyone that works at a Brigg's plant if so then they can buy cheaper and also if they have any reconditioned ones then they are real cheap most of the time that is stuff sent back because of cosmetic reason's but it could include other things also.

I've been using one for a couple of years and love it. It has more vibration than the 2 strokes I've used in the past, but it runs like a top and seems a good bit stronger than a 2 stroke 5hp.

    Foghorn,

    Is a throttle an option?

    Rollin :

Yeah it is an option but it is sort of like riding a 3 wheeler you got to know when to shift the weight at the right time.

By the way have you heard from our friend Quentin from Michigan lately that shoots with you in Mason sometimes.

The first time I went to Mason MI. with a friend from my area we stayed at Quentin's house because he and my friend was good buddies.

By the way the motors come in black or Camo.

Thanks all of you. Tron, I wish I could live around the ocean and fish like you do, I am envious. I live in Colorado and we have smaller water so I just use small boats. Think I will try the Briggs.
