This some some guy. When I was a kid I wanted to be a fighter pilot, and read all I could, and he was one of the guys I read about. He started flying P-38s, and then went to a P-51 during WWII. He ended up with 4 victories over Migs in Vietnam.

He also ended up marrying a movie star. Like I said, one hell of a guy, who lived an interesting life.

    Day is done,
    gone the sun,
    From the hills,
    from the lake,
    From the skies.
    All is well,
    safely rest,
    God is nigh.
    Go to sleep,
    peaceful sleep,
    May the soldier
    or sailor,
    God keep.
    On the land
    or the deep,
    Safe in sleep.

    Love, good night,
    Must thou go,
    When the day,
    And the night
    Need thee so?
    All is well.
    Speedeth all
    To their rest.

    Fades the light;
    And afar
    Goeth day,
    And the stars
    Shineth bright,
    Fare thee well;
    Day has gone,
    Night is on.

    Thanks and praise,
    For our days,
    'Neath the sun,
    Neath the stars,
    'Neath the sky,
    As we go,
    This we know,
    God is nigh.

    Can't play Taps here...

A fine leader and one of the last old school fighter jocks. He was good friends with Gen. Chappee James and they flew together in Vietnam. Gen. Olds and his "Wolf Pack" took back the skies over Noth Vietnam from the NVNs. One of his great successes was his plan to disguise 3 flights of F-4s as bomb laden F-105s. He devised a plan to equip F-4s with jammer pods and use F-105 call signs. The NVN pilots took the bait and came up afyer what they THOUGHT were F-105s on a bombing misson. In that one engagement, Gen. Olds and his pilots destroyed a vast portion of the NVN Mig-21 fleet without suffering a single loss. He was a true American Hero and he will be missed!
