Pictured is arguably a very famous SBC Chevy V-8 engine in competition service. This engine is very special since it once powered a well-known streamliner to some FIA records. The engine remained with Moon Equipment Company (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) all these years and pressed into service, after freshening, into a modified roadster running in "F" Class, supercharged, on fuel. Unfortunately, a valve spring broke and ended the running for the week.

    Questions:

    1. Take a wild guess; where and how did this engine first make its mark?

    2. Engine is "small", so small in capacity it's unusual. How big in cubic inches do you figure this engine displaces? Hint: It still runs 8 cylinders.

    3. Name the famous hot rodder, now deceased, who originally built the engine.

    4. Where is the streamliner, the original home of the engine, now located?

    4. The hot rodder who built the engine also was associated with the Cobra sports car for Carroll Shelby in a rather unpublicized, but important capacity. What was that capacity?

    5. Approximately how old are the original block and heads?

    6. What, among many smaller items in the picture depict today's technology re. competition engines.

    Have fun!!

Seen at Bonneville Speed Week last Wednesday in the pits....
