anyone have an idea of about what it will cost to have the receiver on a Y model 12 re-blued.? The barrel assembly is fine.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Dan- if you only blue the receiver, it will not match the barrel.

You need to find a blueing service that knows about Y model 12 receivers as most change to a plumb color. It has something to do with the metal used in Y model guns go with a Model 12 specialist or some service that will make sure the color will not change. I have seen many Y guns that have turned plumb color.

Go to Simmons website. They have all of their gunsmithing pricing there.
simmonsguns.com I would imagine that they could keep a M-12 from getting purple.

I have been told the plum color is a result of incorrect bluing salts temperature. Seen it on 94's as well.

The receiver is a casting, just like the post 64 94's. Winchester blued those M-12s but black chromed the 94s.

If you look at a lot of early Y-model they will be Plum from the factory. The last one I just sold was that way and had not been reblued.
