Last year in the cold same problem, bad plastic. They supposedly fixed the problem maybe you have old inventory? Switched to DownRange wads and haven’t looked back.

There were some manufactured with bad plastic a couple of years back. I encountered this problem while shooting over a chronograph in cold weather. The normal sounding loads were running just over 1200 fps. The bloopers were about 900 to 1050 fps as I recall. Several wads were recovered and the over powder cups were fractured. Duster Wads replaced them for me.

The simple solution would be to not shoot in cold weather.

I went to a registered trap shoot and scored a fellow that had 100 bloopers! Every single shot he fired was a blooper and yes he was using Green Duster wads in cold weather, He also left his shells in the truck the night before the event!

Carolina Clay GC near Greensboro NC - he shot like crap also!

I have shot well over 30,000 rounds with Green Dusters. I have used Solo 1000, Clays, and Claydot powder. I have shot when it was 5 degrees out. I have NEVER had a blooper.

I do store my shells outside but warm up the ones I am going to use on that particular day by putting them on the floor of the car with the heat blowing on them while driving to an event.

There are many powders, wads and primers that can produce bloopers in very cold temperatures but if you warm them you will have no problems. A little care is required to have a happy day instead of a frustrating one.

I shot with a couple of buddies last week. They were shooting RIOS. Both had at least 5 bloopers in each box.

One shooter solved the problem by wearing earmuffs with music. That way he couldn't hear how bad they sounded!!

If you have some of the Green Dusters that were part of the bad batch I don't think warming them up before the shoot will solve the problem. It didn't for me, they still got cold enough before the shoot was over to have some bloopers.

I use Green Dusters with International Clays and have had no problems; from the 100+ degrees at last years Grand to below Zero here in Michigan. I keep shells in the trunk so they get real cold.

Sorry it was Jan and Feb of 06 that the problem first came out, longer than a year ago. Micro Technologies (Duster Wads) had a bunch of bad plastic in some of the lots. You had to have some from a certain lot to have it happen. Wonder if it is happening again or they are just from the old lot. Doesn’t really matter the DownRange are a better wad IMO and the problem helped me discover them. Take a walk downrange and see if you can find some that you fired, if they are bad then they will look like the one on the right in the picture, or worse.
