Gary Stevens has just called and informed me that Bill Mains was found deceased in his motorhome this morning in Bandera Texas.

Bill was a good friend and a fine man.

Bill loved his work and he loved having people watch him work.

He will be missed by all that ever passed his way.

They say we are only on this earth for a visit, Bill's was way to short.

    R.I.P....Condolences to his family.

bill was my friend. i can't thank him enough for all help and encouragement when i started as a mobil vendor. i remember nights at the cal state shoot very late with just a couple of people still working on vendors row at that time of night. i would look over and there was bill with his head down working at his craft. the knowlege he passed on to me and many others is what made him so special to many of the younger vendors and helped raise the quality of the work that was available on vendors row.

i remember one saturady night at the golden west grand when just about everyone was in at the casino for the awards dinner. some group of people was breaking into the motorhomes and travel trailers while everyone was in town. bill saw what was happening and called me. i was still working further up on vendors row. bill came up the hill armed i came down the hill armed and we caught the would be burglers and held them for the police.

many evening drinks, meals togeather, and long talks over the years. he will be missed. a very sad day indeed. doug hubbart gunsmith/colorado custom cases

A loss to the shooting community, indeed. Bill was a great artist who trained many years ago as an engraver in Lancaster, PA. His abilities were a gift and rare talent; a gentleman and friend to all who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. A sad day.......
