You should know with a name like Turkey Hunter.

    All.

    Box, slate, mouth.

I use all three, all have different pitches and have their plusses.

I've had success with various brands of diaphragm, slate & glass calls over the years. It all depends upon the turkey being in the proper "mood" on a given day.

But -- if you really want to try someting unique, use a drinking straw.....

Better still........a simple blade of grass.

If I had only one call that I could take into the woods, it would definately be a high quality box call. Great volume and suttle calls. Practice with a mouth call until you sound as good as the pros would be a close second...lol Dale

Lynch Box. H S Strut push botton box. Quaker Boy mouth calls. Finally, a spit and drum to get the big boys that freeze up close.

That combo has killed many, including an 11" Eastern double bearded.

The Lynch box is hard to beat. It is not "the" call as much as it is what you do with it.In my experiance, a little calling goes a long way where I hunt.

i have tried many calls over the years. the ones i like the best are cody turkey calls. slate and glass are the best i have ever used. do a search on the net. they arent the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Turkey calls are like guns, you have to try several until you find the one that works for you & your calling style......and the geographic area you are in. I found that I needed different calls for AL versus FL.

I have had gobbles from slate, box and mouth calls. Which one I like best depends on when you ask me and which one got the last gobble. If I had to only use one I like the slate type calls, friction calls. Very easy to get a yelp, cluck or purr out of. Easy to go soft or loud.

I have been using HS Strut diaphram calls for the past three years. I like the raspy calls like split V 111. I also use Empire Game calls diaphram calls and box calls when I need to change it up for a difficult gobblers.
