Looking at purchasing some tax software. What's the best? Worst?

    Thanks in advance,

I like TaxAct. It allows you to create multiple returns, which some other programs won't allow.

Your CPA, you can't take a box with you to an audit. Take it from someone that got audited twice and actually got an apology.

Income tax software is a real racket; marketed for yuppies who think that computers have to somehow be involved in everything. The software is only sophisticated enough for people who don't need it. And if the tax laws change next year, you have to buy new software. Do yourself a favor and deal with a professional.

TurboTax is probobly the best. It really depends on the number of unusal sources of income you have . if only w2 and 1099 the tax cut is good. but if your in a partner ship of some type or a LLC then use turbo tax. I done both but turbo tax is by far the best and about $40.00. but it worth if you have a partmership no matter how big or small.

Ive used tax act for bout 5 years now. It has been able to cover all the problems i might have incurred. Work for R R plus have several rental units. It covered the outside income, maint, travel exp with rentals, advertising etc. and was also able to handle travel exp related to job with railroad including rail ret with-holding which at the time was not covered by turbo tax.and you cant beat the price. 12.99 includes one electronic filing andif your kids need to file, they can file electronic for an additinal 5.00. found the questions to be as easy to answer an turbo tax, and it proviided options to see if filing joint or as two singles got the best return. give it a look see, beleive you can get a free version that does not include te free filing and can be updated to electronic filing if you want.

    all good bob w
