Southern Iowa is hard to beat for big deer and lot's of them, but you will have to go to northern Iowa for pheasants.

Born in & reside in Iowa. Have lived in Nebraska & married a Husker. So since you asked IMHO -

Unfortunately Iowa's pheasant population is very low with some areas of exception. Deer are plentiful just about anywhere.

Missouri - Deer plentiful but pheasants not. Quail & turkey are. Beautiful state.

Nebraska - Central or western Nebraska for both & can include waterfowl. Negative not many places of populace. Good education system for family and people are salt of the earth like most rural MW states. Negative - Husker football is 12 mo a year.

Kansas & So Dakota are same as Nebraska (except the Husker FB thing). Diverse wildlife but not many populace centers.

Personally I would chose NE or KS for some moderation in temps & avg snowfall (I am getting older & like both of those less each year :). An aside, I am beginning to enjoy chasing coyotes in the post deer season and you find them any of aforementioned states. Oh, there are great trapshooters & clubs in each state.

Probably way more info than you wanted but I am bored & you got me thinking. John in Iowa

    targetmaster,

Central and Western Nebraska....Deer, quail, pheasant, turkey, ducks, geese, coyote, prarie dog. Eastern Nebraska....Deer, quail, pheasant, turkey, politicans, illegal aliens, dope dealers, ACLU types, PITA, gays, Socialists. There's something to hunt all across the state!

Midwestern to Western Nebraska Great for Duck and Geese - Eastern NE isn't even that bad for them too. Lots of deer in Eastern - you don't even need a gun in most parts of Omaha just drive 55 mph w/ your brights on on the out skirts of town and you should hit one!ahah Pheasants and Quail i have not seen a lot of in my area(Ashland, NE just east of Lincoln) for about 7 years.

KANSAS, SE for Big Whitetails ,Ducks ,Geese, Turkeys. Go West for Muleys,Pheasants,Ducks,Geese,Quail,Pdogs. We have it all and there is still a lot of FREE Private Land and a lot of free state leased Walk On Land to hunt. And we have any kind of weather you want.
