I shoot nothing but brand new Estate 7.5's, 1200 fps. $54.90 a case at Scheel's before tax. Been through many, many flats of them with 0 misfires so far.

Have you shot the higher end factory loads? STS, AA or Federal Gold Medals? Federal Papers are regarded as very soft shooting. All of the premium ammo uses good hard shot that is very uniform in size.

I find that Estates are pretty snappy compared to the speed that is written on the box. YMMV.

If you are shooting 16's, the AA xtralites are hard to beat. Very light recoil and 1 oz loads pattern tighter than 1 1/8 oz so you'll see plenty of smoke if you do your part. IMO the fed papers aren't as light recoil as they use to be when the 12c1 wad was used.

I agree 100 percent! I like the AA Xtralites.. Shot first 25 with them.. Unfourtnally I think thoes are only likw 1080 and I will be shooting the state shoot where thw targets are cranked up a little so id like a faster load.... I know im pickey7!!

It used to be Federal Papers w/12C1 wad, now it is a toss up of all shells.

STS 1 oz # 81/2 @1185--great for singles, first shot of doubles and caps to the 22. If you are in a warm climate.

I'm with Old Goat. I've never shot Federal papers. That aside, IMO the best shells on the planet for ATA are the STS 1oz, the STS Light Target (1 1/8oz @ 1145fps) and the Nitro27 (1 1/8oz @ 1235fps).

Been shooting ATA only a very short time compared to some out there. About 25 yrs. The very best shell by far is the Gold Medal Plastic Extra Lite 1 1/8 7 1/2. I have chrono'ed & patterned this factory load in many guns. Always did the job & when no other shell would pattern or shoot POI. Lowest recoil also. Paper of same DE & shot eq. MAY be slightly less. Will not speak to the performance at 27,never been there.
