Wanted to get your guys thoughts on what is the best ATA shoot to go to. The best place I have been is winchester VA with 14 trap fields. I have always shot in VA and have never gone out of state to shoot. so whats the best shoot?

John, The very best shoots are the ones you attend. It does not matter if its the one nearby where you live, or the state shoot, or the Grand in Sparta. Have fun doing what you can afford and make the most of it. The most enjoyable aspect of this sport is the friends you make!!! Then going to the shoots that they attend to see them each year, or month, or each week. Break-em all. Jeff

All depends on your definition of 'best'. Scenery? Quality of targets? Quality of competition? Best monetary payouts? Everyone will have different ideas of what defines a good shoot.

Hard to beat the Cardinal Center. Excellent camping facilities for large RVs, 48 traps for tournament use, extremely efficient (they start on time) and the targets are pretty good too. I won't miss a shoot this year!

I have not been to PA State Shoot yet but hope to get there soon. I hear it is good too.

Of course we would like to suggest the North Carolina trapshoot June 1 - 5, 2011. Located in Bostic NC we have 13 trapfields with PAT traps and ERADS on every field except the practice field.

    Come join us!

Also since we are down South I need to mention the South Carolina State shoot in Spartanburg. May 11 -15, 2011 will be the date this year and this was one of Pat Irelands favorite places to shoot.

Saturday squad early so you won't have to smell that fish frying at the clubhouse during the 2nd 100 of the championship singles.

Kansas State Shoot. 20 pat traps, good and consistent background through out, well run, and nice trophies for out of state shooters.

Everyone should make it to the Fall Handicap at Linn Creek Mo at least once.

If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, friendly folks, good targets and just want to have a fun shoot, I highly recommend both the South Carolina and Alabama. Both clubs are just a fun place to shoot. You can't beat the fish fry in Spartanburg and Bill Parsons, Jr. and the Bama crew put on a great shoot.. Both are small but fun fun fun!

You're absolutely correct about the Michigan Trapshooting Association, with one exception. They have 40 program traps and 3 practice traps, for a total of 43.

Iowa State Shoot Cedar Falls Iowa for a state shoot. Lots of prizes both in state and out of state.

4th of July shoot at Otter Creek Sportsmen's Club Cedar Rapids Iowa. Harlan shot it and called it the "BIGGEST LITTLE SHOOT IN THE LAND" 7 traps, lots of shells and lots of added money given away.

May not be what your looking for, but have had the most fun at the smaller clubs. The big shoots are OK if your looking for vendors, but something special about small club shoots. More interaction between shooters...
