Beretta O/U Question

    What is the advantage/disadvantage of the Side plate type receiver (687EELL for example) over the non side plate receiver (682, 686 for example).

    As noted - in the case of the 687 EELL or even the DT10 EELL the sideplates are just for pretty. The SO series guns are true sidelocks however.

    so pulling the side plates only exposes.........wood?

    yup, wood.

    Here is a picture of a EELL stock set from Coles. Enlarge the picture and you can see the recess for the sideplate.
