I've located a Beretta 687 Gold, 28" with Mobil Chokes - no not a 687 EL Gold or any EL derivative. This a 687 with blued receiver and a single 'gold' inlay of a pheasant on either side of the receiver. The underside is engraved with '687 Gold' much like the 682 'Greystone' receivers are engraved. Wish I had a picture to illustrate. This is not a 'sideplated' gun.

In any case, can anyone confirm the date(s) of manufacture for this gun? Possible value? Thanks in advance.

Look on the barrel to see if there are Roman Numerals or 2 capital letters. These are the date of proofing the barrels code, so you will at least know the date the barrels were proofed. Since any 68x barrel can be fitted to any 680 receiver, you need to check with Beretta for when the receiver was made.

I'll try and check my Blue Book later too night.

    Thanks Jason.

I know for sure that the barrel and receiver ser #s match - I asked. I did not however, ask about the proof codes. Guess I'll have to make another call . . .

Look forward to 'hearing' what the "Blue Book' may have to say about this gun. For some reason, I suspect that this gun was first on the market in the late '80s ('88-'89) time frame, and somewhat short lived.

Click on the web link above. It shows the proof dates for the barrels. Bill Malcolm

The closest model in the 26th Ed. 2005 Blue Book is the Model 687 Golden Onyx.
Similar to 686 Onyx, except has more engraving and several gold inlays. Imported 1988-89 only.

    100% $1525; 95% $995; 80% $700 add 15% for 20 ga.
