I have this relatively old Beretta 682X unsingle that I have used for years.
It has been used a bunch but not abused. It is getting a little loose and the
top lever is getting slightly to the left of center. I need to tighten it a
little and I want to try it myself. I know I may screw it up and it may cost
more to have it rescued by a professional---but thats okay. Now then, does
anyone have good rtecommendations on the necessary and proper steps to tighten
it up. I have most tools and guages, so please give me your helpful hints.

Depends on what is loose, up and down, or side to side. Sounds like you will have to replace the locking pins that lodge in the receiver. If I remember correctly, those Beretta's had two, similar to the Kolars. Replace all springs while your at it. If the hinge is where it is loose, usually a slightly oversize hinge pinion is required, which may require some machining in either case.

    Hello Dennis ,

One method to tighten - up Beretta's is to swap out the replaceable shoulders
the replacement most likely will not be blued like the factory ones.

This first photo shows the replaceable shoulder from the factory

This second photo is a different Beretta with new shoulders installed.
They are not blued which doesn't matter to some owners.
