    can any here can tell me about the early benelli sl-80 123 guns that are discontinued,no parts available?
    did ya`ll have any problems with parts breaking and such?
    I have a leade on a "rafaello" sl80 123 from the 80`s for 600. used-vg-exc.
    This is the closest thing to the current "executive" model they made except
    30years ago.It has the roll engraving on both sides of the reciever,etc.

    thank

    I had a Benelli SL80 123 which I bought, new in 1985.

    Mine had the external choke tubes, something like the tubes of a Ctts Compensator, only without the compensator "cage".

    I sold this gun in 1996 for a number of reasons;

    - I found I did not like shooting the interia action, in the long run.

    - no easy way to fit a shell catcher

    - when it was discontinued, I had concerns over parts availability

    - my gun showed some signs of parts battering in spite of being fired only with 1 1/8 oz target loads or light field loads. An SL80 20g my wife had exhibited similar traits.

    However, it was a nice looking autoloader and I don't recall it ever failing to fire, eject and cycle, etc.

    The parts battering involved the bolt handle which was used also as a "stop" or keeper for some of the bolt components; it showed some noticeable impact evidence after a few 1,000 rounds. The aluminum rear interior surface of the aluminum lower receiver took the impact of the steel bolt at the rear of it's travel; this was showing more evidence of impact than I liked. These factors along with the parts supply issue contributed to my decision to sell it.

    I would not seek out another one for my own use, now.
