Richard Ramirez, "The Night Stalker" died of natural causes today. Being Christian, I know if he did not accept Jesus as his savior, and as far as I know he didn't, he will spend eternity in hell. Either way brings glory to God. Either way you atheist miss out.

    "the Christians are no better."

Care to expound as to how you've come to that conclusion??

Careful, there is a big difference between the "worlds" concept of "Christian" and, "Believers" and "followers" of Christ.

Obo claims to be "Christian" but his actions say different when compared to God's word.

I didn't even address the issue of "brain washing" used by all

people of religion.....I mean, they all tell their kids,

"This is the truth." And so what do you think is the result of

that alone? Parents surely don't give their children enough

information.....not that information of any kind would

be of proper use by a child.....no, parents just say

what is convenient, and what was said to them by their

parents. That's a big reason why all the shit keeps

happening. What do you think causes suicide bombers?

So what rules do 'without religion' live by? Religious guidelines have given us a civil society with ideals of Freedom, free will, Liberty and Justice for all, as ideals to try to live up to and allows for man to be human, that is, make mistakes.

'Without religion', live, taking full advantage of a civil society who's way was paved by religious philosophy and behavior. That civil society would not have existed without the advent of religion and belief in God.

The based on religion civil society has paved the way for other studies that help man. If man were always in conflict little time would be left to explore science, medicine, the arts, literature, music or anything else. (ie Astronomy, Physics, WGH)

That's what a religion based civil society has done for you. What has the 'without religion' society done for anyone?

Why do communist countries allow churches?

What the atheist actually misses out on is having to live his or her one and
only life under the threat of the stifling, opressive ignorance that religion is.
Freedom of religion means freedom from religion to the atheist. The freedom to
live a calm peaceful life with an open mind, the freedom to accept the insights
that slowly emerge from scientific inquiry without having to embrace ignorance,
    freedom from religion. It's wonderful!

    WGH,

    And, what is your alternative?

If you don't believe in a supreme being(s) how do you juxtapose your earlier comment about rising from the primordial ooze, and inventing religion 6,000 years ago, with some of the things we can still find on our Earth?

I have seen Puma Punku and the Nazca Lines in South America. While I can't explain the exact origin of Religion, I can't explain these 14,000 - 20,000 year old sites, either.

My point is, that these things serve to open my mind, not close it.

I wasn't going to chime in but the opportunity is just too great. First of all every religion is the same, one group says they are right the other group says they are right. Can everyone be right? I doubt it! Every "holy" book has claims of knowing how everything came into existence and the purpose of life and rules that everyone has to abide by to get into "heaven". Can every "holy" book be right? Again, I doubt it! What science has done that religion refused to do is say they didn't know the answers and then studied nature, biology, and the universe to find the answers. What religion failed to do science did. Science provided facts and then presented the facts beautifully and explained a lot about our universe. Religion says "we don't need facts just "faith". The whole essence of faith is belief without evidence. Is this really how an evolved society should behave? I think not, we should always be trying to find the answers ourselves and not just relying on what some uneducate author wrote about over 2,000 years ago. Everyone, on this website could be considered and atheist! Do you still believe in Zeuss, Apollo, or the hundreds of hindu gods. Then technically you are an atheist towards those religions. Christians are no different that any other group, they just believe in the Jewish god. And of course their god is the only true god. If people only knew how many contradictions, fallacies, and errors there actually were in the bible they would probably change their view, maybe. The bible has been changed so much and we don't even have the original copies of most books. A lot of scripture that people quote was not even in our earliest manuscripts and was in fact added years later by a scribe who thought it sounded better! It isn't the word of god but in fact words of men who put authority to it by saying they got it from god. I could go on and on and provide countless examples on how the bible is in errant. But first I ask everyone to take the four gospels and compare stories from each and look for yourself. They don't even agree on simple facts!

"First of all every religion is the same" You just lost the argument.

"It isn't the word of god but in fact words of men who put authority to it by saying they got it from god." You just lost the argument part 2.

But this isn't a debate with winners and losers - the only winner is he who surrenders to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

All sin is not the same, but all sin separates us from the God that made us, our universe, and everything in it. Richard Ramirez is no less deserving of an eternity in hell that I am. The inconceivable wonder of Christianity is that God reached down from heaven and did for us what we could not do for ourselves in sending His Son to die for our sins. In EVERY other religion, with a concept of a god outside of ourselves, man is reaching up to the god(s) trying to appease or earn our way to a right relationship in this life and whatever lies beyond (which may be a 'do over' if we don't get it right).

The Lord takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 33:11, 2 Peter 3:9) and since we are saved by grace, neither should we.

The great contribution of the Protestant religion to western civilization, and the world, was in encouraging the process by which Rex Lex (the divine right of kings and popes) became Lex Rex (the rule of law is king). The theocracy of Calvin's Geneva or Zwingli's Zurich where my Anabaptist forefathers were drowned for the 'crime' of believer's baptism didn't work out so well, and the Reformers learned something from that failure. Where there is no rule of law, there is no advancement of civilization or peace.

The inspired brilliance of the Founders of this nation was in protecting:
    1. Religion from the government
    2. Government from religion and
    3. The minority from the tyranny of the majority.

They understood however that government can not make people good.

    John Adams
“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

We can all "blah, blah, blah " and talk and give our opinions all we want...doesn't really mean too much, just makes us feel good.

All I can tell you is I lived a good portion of my younger life, living in sin, doing whatever I felt like doing, and reaped the benefits of it. God does have a plan for each of our lives and does want the best for each of us. My life is so much better now than before; I am far from being a good person, because there is no such thing. But I see the blessings from God in my life each and every day- in the big things, and in the small things.

You can argue, deny, or ignore the fact that God is real, and that his words are truth...that makes no difference! It doesn't change the fact that he is. A simple example would be that when you approach a traffic light, you see what you thought to be a green light, but it was actually red and you charge thru it. Cop takes your license away cause you already had a bunch of violations. You can argue all you want, but in the end you are guilty because you went through the light and they had it all on video.

    God Bless you,

A very wise man once told me that to deny divine creation and claim a big bang just happened to create life, the earth and all is that in it is like claiming that a foundry exploded with all debris coming down as finely made watches all keeping perfect time.

Glad your are living a happy live provided for you by the people who protect and defend your right to do so under a set of guidelines and boundaries set by our Forefathers so long ago. Freedom is not free.

Your form of atheism would not be acceptable in communist/socialist countries imho.

    Drew Hause,

First of all I didn't say all religions were the same in totality, but in fact they all claim they are the true religion. Isn't this the case? Christians claim Jesus is the only true god or one of the three, jews claim jehovah is the only true god, muslims claim allah, hindus claim a bunch, so on and so on. Then within each denomination there are conflicts, don't have time to get into that.

    puablo,

I don't think I'm giving opinions but facts! I always people to compare the different gospel writers and write down differences between the stories. Some are just minor but some are major. Do it for yourself, don't take my word for it.

    ou.3200,

Actually I would like to talk to that "wise old man" to see what university he studied science. It's actually not very fine tuned at all, but very chaotic. Things are changing all the time, stars go supernova, galaxies expanding, etc. But if you want to get into things that are very fine tuned that disapproves creationism then lets talk about evolution the genome project and fossil records. First of all, any logical person could see that it wasn't created. I can get into that later.

    kgun,

There are also a good many things in the Bible that are true. The Naked Archeologist Discovery series has been proving, or disproving bible stories and prophesies for some time. I got dragged to one of his lectures several years ago, and found it fascinating.

I haven't read every Holy book there is, but I have read the Bible, the Qur'an, most of Confucius and Zen and parts of the Bhagavad-Gita (Hindu), so I can't say if the others prescribe to heaven? I can tell you some of them are just confused, and others present some good lifestyle choices. Not all I've read lead to a Heaven.

I would venture to say that they all have been changed through history. Our own Bible was rewritten in the 1300's by Catholic's. The Qur'an I read after 9/11 was one of 160+ versions, and is more a geog-political manual for domination, subjugation and fatalistic existence. They are not all created equal.

Faith isn't the absence of knowledge or proof, it's an abiding belief. If faith compels you to search out the proof or science, as it does Simcha J. with the Bible, or did Confucius, then faith is a good thing.

There are major differences between Christian's and other religions. Most of them good for us, and good for the world in general. Not perfect, but certainly evolving toward a loving God. Self-actualization should be the aim of religion, and that is where Christianity separates and shines.

Too often it comes down to a "Rome, and Roman' thing. But that's man's failures, not faith's.

A religion dreamed up by man, with a little help from satan, would never have the cross.

    A.W. Tozer "That Incredible Christian"

At the heart of the Christian system lies the cross of Christ with its divine paradox. The power of Christianity appears in its antipathy toward, never in its agreement with, the ways of fallen men. The truth of the cross is revealed in its contradictions. The witness of the church is most effective when she declares rather than explains, for the gospel is addressed not to reason but to faith. What can be proved requires no faith to accept. Faith rests upon the character of God, not upon the demonstrations of laboratory or logic.

The cross stands in bold opposition to the natural man. Its philosophy runs contrary to the processes of the unregenerate mind, so that Paul could say bluntly that the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness. To try to find a common ground between the message of the cross and man's fallen reason is to try the impossible, and if persisted in must result in an impaired reason, a meaningless cross and a powerless Christianity.

God has given each of us free will to either believe him or not. God laughs at all the wisdom of man, with all our infinite knowledge. He uses the lowest, silliest things in the world to confound the wise, natural man.

It is up to each person to make your own choice to believe in him or not; he's not forcing anyone, but desperately wants us to choose life and not destruction in our lives.

There will come a time when every (yes, every) knee will bow and every person confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord of all. I decided many years ago to do that on this side of eternity, not when it's too late to make that choice and be lost forever. I hope you choose that also.
