    Had a shooter at the range with a Browning fix choke gun and I do not know what chokes the barrels were please help me. One barrel had a two Xs with a horizontal line through them. The other had two Xs with the horizontal line and vertical lines through both of them.

    Browning fixed choke markings. From Shotgun World.com

    ON REAR LEFT-SIDE OF BARREL:

    * designates full choke (F).

    *- designates improved modified choke (IM).

    ** designates modified choke (M).

    **- designates improved cylinder choke (IC).

    **$ designates skeet (SK).

    *** designates cylinder bore (CYL).

    We found no letters only the X marks on the left side of the barrels and they were where the barrel goes into the reciever.

    It's not letters on the barrel, its the (*'s) that indicate it. Maybe it is older or newer than the * system but Browning is pretty uniform in their markings.
