    This is the goal........

Next ban on assault weapons needs to include copycat weapons

    - Allvoices.xom / By Dava -

What does sensible gun legislation include?

The principal elements and model outlined by the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence include:

    • Definition of assault weapons. Based on a “single military feature test,” the definition eliminates one of the weaknesses of the expired federal ban, and emphasizes high capacity and enhanced control during firing.

    • Ban on assault weapons. The manufacture, importation, possession, purchase and transfer of assault weapons are prohibited.

    • Ban on large capacity ammunition magazines. Also separately prohibited are the manufacture, importation, possession, purchase and transfer of large capacity ammunition magazines – feeding devices whose capacity greatly enhances the lethality of assault weapons and other firearms.

    • Treatment of assault weapons already in circulation. Two options are included:

    (1) assault weapons already in circulation are banned and must be removed from the jurisdiction, rendered permanently inoperable, or surrendered for disposal to the appropriate law enforcement authority, an approach adopted by several local communities; or

    (2) “pre-ban” assault weapons must be registered with the appropriate law enforcement authority, a process included in a number of the state and local bans, but not in the federal ban.

The new assault-weapon ban needs to include a provision preventing the gun industry from creating copycat/clone weapons identical to banned weapons, which was a flaw in the 1994 federal law. Even though 19 assault rifle models were banned, including AK-47s, UZIs, MAC-10s and other military styles with foldable stocks and flash suppressors, the gun manufacturers were able to get around the law by creating copycat weapons.

    .

Define what an "Assault Weapon" is for legal purposes.

Then when that law has no effect, expand the definition to more guns.

Does anyone remember the first arrest in California under their state assault weapon ban which was supposed to be the model for the rest of the country ?

Absolutely a disgusting article, but I'm very afraid it's predicting our future. The stupids have found a vehicle to carry their gun-ban agenda, and all it cost was 20 kids, a few adults, and one raving lunatic.

Under the definitions already proposed during the 2004 renewal attempt the Winchester Model 12, popular amongst trap shooters, meets the criteria for an assault weapon because it holds one shotgun shell too many. And you cannot simply plug the magazine. You'd have to permanently shorten the mag tube to comply.

Semi-auto handguns with a threaded muzzle will be banned. This means that non-military handguns like the Ruger Mark series or the Browning Buckmark, et al, will be assault weapons. You will not be able to put a muzzle brake, compensator or suppressor on them.

For that matter the clearly sporting Browning Buckmark rifle will probably be banned, because it violates the single military feature criteria.

High grade target pistols like Walthers or Hammerlis will be banned because their magazine is in front of the trigger guard. These are clearly not assault weapons but are defined that way.

The single military feature criteria now jeopardizes even the M1 Garand, which some bought during the first ban thinking it would never be affected since it has a blind magazine and no pistol grip.

the so-called law center to prevent (fill in the blank) should be looking at mental health and keeping evil people away from good people.

More important than ever to join the NRA, still the most effective pro-gun organization on the planet.

Don't you dare put a pistol grip on that 870. The ban is to remove anything that looks scary..................

Sure, more feel good laws that do not address an issue. A pistol grip makes it dangerous. Continuing to breed, nurture and make excuses for the irresponsible, amoral, demonic scum is no worry. Continuing to put know evil criminals back out on the streets is no problem. Making every public place as not threatening to those who want to mass murder is the new "feel good" safety program. A plastic grip or a curved magazine is the problem. Waht a bunch of foolish sheep.

Bla Bla Bla.... Laws Laws everywhere a law. Last I knew there was a law against murder. That sure as hell didn't stop that punk. What makes people think a law to ban a certain firearm will stop others from killing?

Personally, I believe that ANY assault ban must include the removal of every mention and/or portrayal of the same.

This means ALL video games, Holly-weird movies, DVDs VHS tapes and TV series and reruns must be turned in and destroyed at the same time. Let's see just how serious the libber elites are?

problem with that is everyones definition is different.. Remember Ted Kennedy once had a definition of a saturday night special, as any handgun smaller than a s&w mod 29 with a 8 3/8{" bbl...A claw hammer can be an assault weapon if its used that way. If u give the gun haters a chance we will loose them all starting with AR's and AK's after that the sky is the limit, we soon loose them all, even your bt99 and all......

I absolutely hate the term, "assault weapon". Do you not realize that getting rid of all semi auto weapons, I don't like that word "weapon" either. All semi auto firearms includes all your 10/22's and 1100 rem, browning A5's and handguns, no more 1911's or buckmark 22's... come on folks we gotta think here!!!

trap906, sadly, a lot are not thinking. They are panicking and are trying to throw their fellow gunowners under the bus. Some are even demanding a politically correct NRA that only protects their trap and skeet guns. The irony will be that once we reach that level, they'll throw temper tantrums when they demand support from everyone else and find no one wants to help them.

I remember an old cartoon showing a sinking ship. The semi-auto owners were going under at the stern. Next were the handgunners. Then the scoped hunting rifle owners ("sniper rifles"). At the bow, merrily enjoying themselves and oblivious to what is going on around them were the duck hunters and skeet shooters, with one saying, "Nonsense, nothing will happen to us."

The anti-gunners want all firearms banned. They use a method called incrementalism. This means they are carving up the pie and taking a slice at a time.
