How many shooters take two guns to registered shoots ? Do you have a primary gun and have a second gun, just in case ?

    I have three guns.

    A Beretta 686 X-trap (primary trap gun)

A Beretta DT-10 (primary sporting clays gun) - this also has a set of trap barrels and an extra stock so it can do duty as a trap gun.

A Beretta 687 set up for sporting clays only - back-up / loaner gun

Stock fits and POI's are so similar I can rotate between them in any given activity with no change in scores.

I was shooting a friendly competition (for beer), dropped one bird when the stock on the DT-10 cracked - switched to the 686 and ran the rest - won the beer. Didn't even cry about the stock (since repaired).

I take only one gun but I also take a spare receiver and forend iron. I can quickly replace every part of the gun except the stock and barrels.

From a couple of bad experiences I've learned that the back up, if you use one, has to be pretty close in fit and function to the primary. You also need to shoot it occassionally to keep up your confidence if/when you need it. IMHO
