Senators Toomey and Manchin are proposing that background checks be performed on all gun sales at gun shows and on the internet. Federal law already requires that guns purchased on the internet cannot be shipped party-to-party. They must be shipped to the buyers local dealer. That dealer MUST do a background check as he must do on all gun sales from his shop. Here's another example of our legislators writing laws concerning situations of which they know nothing. this is a duplication of Federal law already on the books. Call and write your Senators and explain this to them.

The gun show sales between private parties and all other sales between private parties is the problem that they need to address. In some states any moron can sell a firearm to a complete stranger.
Correcting this would not have prevented Newtowne however.

You better watch some of the rino republicans. They are going to sell the gun people down the tube. ready to give them their marching papers the next election.
Obummer plans is to have the background checks tied in with the Obummacare medical records. Many kinds of drugs can be used for pain, colestrol,or many other conditions. But are calssified also to be used for depression, and other mental conditions. Any of those medicines can keep you from owning a gun or worse have then confiscated due to past medication. That means anytime in the past. If you had and major operations sometime in you past then this is all they need. So background checks is an easy way to take your guns. Don't give in to any new checks. Bill

Actually Old Guy you are wrong.

You could ship a firearm in most states- to someone else within that state- after an internet sale--

WRD has a good point-- my example has always been three tables at a gun show that sell a total of 300 guns in a weekend. The tables are aligned, and the ones on either end sell 75 each and are owned by an FFL dealer who does a NIC check on each purchase and fills out transfer paperwork. The one in the middle is run by someone without an FFL and does no NIC checks or paperwork and he sells 150 guns-- that is wrong- and regulating him is not a universal background check.

    Regards from Iowa

So, how many of the mass shooting would have been prevented by this "universal background check"?

Will it prevent the weekly killings in Chicago?

Or, is this an attempt by Toomey and Manchin too quill the liberal voices screaming for even stricter controls?

    ImpalaBob,

As long as their fake 'papers are in order' (and you know they always are), they can buy anything they please and get a pass, or at least a nod and a wink.

Gun show sales will require expanded background checks. Face to face BC not required.

Before you all get giddy about the 'background check',,,,,,take a moment and remember who you are dealing with and the "transparency" we have seen from both sides,,,,,,,,doing something just to be doing something does not make it right or even necessary.......

This action was only to bring it to a vote in the Senate. Vote control is all this is. By the time all of the amendments get put on it, it will be dead in the water, maybe even in the Senate. It will never make it past the House with anything added to it.

The bad part about the whole deal is this is just the Feds, look at all the crap the States have passed already.

Whatever happened to State law can't supercede Federal law?

WRD---Gene---------have you ever completed a 4473?------------doubtfull, but, sometime you need to go to a gun show,or a gun shop and look one over--sounds to me like neither of you would be able to buy a gun------

As of 1968 all mailorder(modern) firearms went to your favorite FFL dealer--(not you)where you filled out a 4473------

Mail order of Antique(mfg before 1898) and replicas of antiques are exempt..

Under the proposed UBC,if I wanted to gift my grandson a Trapgun,I would have to take my grandson, and the trapgun to a FFL and have him and the shotgun registered to the FEDERAL Gov---at a cost between 35.00,and 50.00

The proposed law would make criminals out of MOST gun owners
