If things go wrong, we could be hurting as far as powder is concerned. Sen. Frank Lautenburg D-NJ is going to introduce legislation that will required a background check to purchase smokeless powder, black powder, and black powder substitutes, in any amount. A press release is shown in the attachment. I put this in shooting related threads, as it concerns powder. I could have gone in the political section, but here it is.

This is not new to us New Yorkers and maybe other states as well. Back in the 60s, I had to get a "powder permit" to buy black or smokeless powder. The permit cost fifty cents and I had to buy it yearly from my Town Clerk. After a few years they figured that it wasn't needed and it was discontinued. If they ever discover that terrorists are responsible for the disaster in Waco texas, farmers and gardeners will need background checks to buy fertilizer. Larry Evans

Those sh@@bags look for any reason to make laws/regulations it's how they justify they're existence. I hope that anyone who voted for those big government SOB's can look they're kids and grand-kids in the eyes and explain to them how they contributed to our socialist/communist way of life!!!!!!!!

At a small collage nearby a ROTC student made a pipe bomb from the material that heats MRI's and set it off on campus yesterday. I suppose our troops will have to eat cold sandwiches from now on.

Well, smokeless powder doesn't explode unless tightly confined: which is why the Boston Bomber used a kitchen pressure cooker.

It seems clear to me that what we need now is national registration of all pressure cookers. Perhaps there should be a required purchase permit, with a 3 day waiting period. Homeowners could only purchase one every five years. Serial numbers on all pressure cookers.

Maybe California and New York could lead the way with this new law...

I haven't heard any announcement that the bomb was powder in any form. Lefty Lautenburg is just trying to get in a preemptive strike before the composition of the bomb is known. We are overrun with legislators determined to destroy freedoms in this country.

Hey, there are allot of powders out there that can kill ya! Toilet paper can kill you too. Get enough of that accidentally inhaled down your throat, your going to be having a rough time of it. You ever blow your nose with toilet tissue and while your taking the deep breath to blow, inhale the piece flapping in the wind below the target line.

    Cat,

I just broke the law. Did not get a background check. LOL

When I was in the USAF in Korea apparently they contracted with a local for our TP, there were chunks of paper with ink still on it

It was like wiping with 36 grit sand paper
